T h e M u s e u m

On the upper floor of Pnevmatikakis Winery is the Wine Museum, looking towards the panoramic view of Gulf of Kissamos.  The Wine Museum comprises a range of exhibits related to viniculture, vinification, production of raki (tsikoudia) and the daily life of older generations on the island of Crete.

The Museum is decorated with wall paintings, depicting scenes related to all the phases of viniculture and wine making, as are applied on the island from the ancient times until today, (display order from left to right).

The pruning, the hoeing, the koutsokorfisma, the grape harvest, the traditional wine press (the so-called patitiri), the traditional wine cellar, wherein the oak barrels were filled by a special type of wine bag, aski, which in the old times was the only transfer medium for wine and usually was made by goat’s skin.  The last wall painting depicts the “laventzi”, “kazani” or “rakokazano”, as is called the traditional distillation of raki.

Our winery is open every day and during the whole year. In particular on month period 1/5 – 30/10  we are open 8.00 to 20.00 . The month period 30/10 – 30/4  we are open every day, except Sunday from 8.00 to 17.00

  • Guided tour in all the areas of our winery, in the production and storage area as well as the bottling area
  • Visit to our stone built cellar.
  • Visit to the Wine Museum, where you can see our collection, with exhibits relating to the viniculture and the wine production as well as to the daily life of the past generations, on the island.
  • Wine tasting at the Wine Museum and enjoyment of our wines on our veranda, overlooking the gulf of Kissamos.
